Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. How often is the data updated?

The frequency and timing of the publication of new data vary depending on the individual indicators. As soon as new data for an indicator becomes available, or previously published data is revised, it is updated in this dashboard.

The dashboard is usually updated once a month. You can see when the last update took place under the Details tab in the Data state section.

2. How can I suggest new or alternative data sources?

If you would like to provide feedback on the data sources used or suggest new ones, please contact us at sdg-indicators@destatis.de

3. What do the symbols and letters next to the data in the charts and tables mean?

If the numerical values of individual data points cannot be published, or cannot be published with their original values, a so-called value-replacement character (a character in place of numbers) is used instead of the numerical value. These characters appear exclusively in the table view.

In certain cases, numerical values require an explanation, for example to clarify the significance or the origin of the numerical value. In such cases, a so-called value-explanatory symbol (a symbol next to the numbers) is used in addition to the numerical value.

In the graph view, value-explanatory symbols appear when you hover the mouse over the relevant data point. In the table view, they are appended to the numerical values.

The meaning of the symbols used is explained in the legend below the graph and the table.
Character Explanation of character Type of character
0 less than half of 1 in the last digit occupied, but more than zero value-replacement character
- no figures or magnitude zero value-replacement character
... data will be available later value-replacement character
/ no data because the numerical value is not sufficiently reliable value-replacement character
. numerical value unknown or not be disclosed value-replacement character
X cell blocked for logical reasons value-replacement character
( ) limited informational value because numerical value is of limited statistical reliability value-explanatory character
| fundamental change within a series affecting comparisons over time value-explanatory character
p provisional data value-explanatory character
r revised data value-explanatory character
s estimated data value-explanatory character

4. What is disaggregation?

Disaggregation involves breaking down an existing indicator into further subcategories for a more detailed analysis. Examples include breaking down data by age group or sex.
